Winter is the coldest season of the four seasons. Especially in northern cities in China, it may snow in winter and the ground will freeze. The wind outside is very cold. When you feel cold, walk into the university canteen and you can enjoy delicious food there. Delicious dishes can provide you with heat, give you a warm feeling and help you resist the cold.

 

Since students in universities usually come from different regions of China, their eating habits are quite different from each other. There are various kinds of dishes in university canteens and you can choose the dish according to your eating habit. Usually, the canteen is built close to the teaching building. So it takes only a few minutes’ walk from your classroom. After you finish your class, you can go to the canteen to have some food.


Due to the low temperature in winter, people's resistance is weak and easy to get sick. So in winter you need to keep warm and keep good health. Winter is suitable for health preservation and people in China have learned health preservation methods to adapt to changes in the weather. Winter health care emphasizes nourishment and you need to eat some nutritious food in winter. Dumplings, glutinous rice balls, or a bowl of hot soup in the university canteen will be a good choice for you.

 

Every winter solstice, northerners will eat dumplings. Dumplings are wrapped in dough and fillings. After the dumplings are cooked in water, they can be dipped in sauce and eaten. There are many flavors of dumplings, you can choose your favorite. Dumplings usually have pork filling, vegetable stuffing, shrimp filling and kimchi filling.


Rice noodles is a traditional kind of Chinese food and a specialty food in the Southwest. The rice noodles are made of rice and present a long strip shape. The cross section of the rice noodles is circular. The color is very white. After being cooked in boiling water, you can take it out and put it in the broth. Rice noodles are rich in carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals, which are very suitable for winter consumption.


Stir-fried chestnuts with sugar is a famous traditional snack with unique local flavors in Beijing and Tianjin and it is also a delicacy with a long tradition. Chestnut has the reputation of "king of dried fruits" and is known as "ginseng fruit" abroad. Chestnuts contain a lot of starch and rich protein, fat, B vitamins and other nutrients and have high calories. During the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, chestnuts were already very popular. Because of the sweet taste of chestnut, it is regarded as a precious fruit.


If you feel cold in winter, then you can order a chicken soup. The surface of the chicken soup is floating with tender green coriander. The chicken is very delicious. You can also add noodles, vermicelli and other staple foods according to your taste in the soup. A crispy scallion pancake is a perfect match for chicken soup. You will feel very warm after you eat this dish.


Hot pot is the most representative delicacy in winter. You can choose your favorite hot pot base according to your taste, usually tomato soup, rib soup, mushroom soup, chili oil soup, etc. You can order the ingredients you like, usually divided into vegetables and meat and add them to the hot pot. In the cold winter, it is a wonderful thing to eat hot pot with your friends.
