The university has undertaken more than 100 national and provincial level scientific research projects such as national fund projects, ‘973’, ‘863’ projects and other key programs. A number of scientific research achievements have reached the advanced international levels, and they are in the leading position in the research of textile, printing and dyeing, clothing and art. In recent years, WTU has won 1 item in the first prize of National Science and Technology Progress, 2 items in the Second prize of National Science and Technology Progress and two items in National Technological Invention Awards.
The university has made great efforts to strengthen international exchanges and cooperation. We attach importance to the introduction of high-quality educational resources abroad, actively developing international student education, and constantly improving the level of internationalization. It has the first Chinese and foreign cooperative school of non-independent legal person in Hubei Province, namely the Birmingham Institute of Fashion and Creativity of the Wuhan Textile University. We carry out a cooperative undergraduate education program with the University of Manchester, Bunka Gakuen University of Japan. We co-cultivate doctoral students with the University of Australian Deakin University and signed contracts with nearly 200 universities in the United States, Australia, Russia and Japan have signed the international communication and cooperation agreement. The school has long hosted the international seminar on service trade of developing countries, sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce of China and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development. It has been approved by many ‘World Famous Scientists to Hubei Lecturing Program’. It has hosted various major international academic conferences for many years. Therefore, the process of internationalization has been steadily advancing.
Since 2010, the university has held far-reaching international textile and fashion activities in the Wuhan international fashion week, the International Forum on Modern Textile Science and Technology, the International Symposium on 3D fabric and application, the Sino Russian Forum on higher education and other fields. In addition, the eighty-ninth World Textile Conference was successfully held, which is the highest level in the textile field.
The university has established cooperation with nearly 50 universities and research institutions, including the United States, Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, France, Italy and so on. The university sends outstanding teachers and students to overseas universities to participate in exchange visits every year, such as the University of California at Davis in the United States, the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom, the Institute of modern art in France, and the University of Japanese culture and education.
