Featured by powerful ability in education, Wuhan Sports University ranks in the leading position in primary disciplines of sports science. It has received a few titles, including University in Wuhan with Advantageous Disciplines. The training science of physical education is awarded with the title of Innovative Discipline with Evident Achievements in Hubei Universities. The University has four key disciplines in Hubei Province, seven key disciplines and programs of the General Administration of Sport, three undergraduate disciplines with national features, one pilot-test of comprehensive discipline reforms in China, four provincial brand disciplines, 5 pilot-tests of comprehensive discipline reforms in Hubei Province, three provincial industrial training programs, two national boutique courses and 16 provincial boutique courses.

The University has sufficient and competent faculty members. It has a number of experts, scholars and famous coaches with great influence at home and abroad. The University has the right to review and approve professorship. More than 400 dedicated teachers and coaches have senior academic titles.

With prominent R&D ability, the University has six provincial and ministerial key laboratories and key research bases (centers). It has taken research tasks of the National Key Technology Support Program, the National Natural Science Fund of China, the National Social Science Fund of China and Olympics technologies, winning a few technological result awards and national invention patents.

The University also has distinct features in development of competition sports, being the first University in China whose athletes win Olympics medals. It has cultivated a number of excellent athletes who have won medals in Olympics and other major competitions in the world, including Zhang Xianghua, Yang Wei, Cheng Fei, Duan Jingli, Lyu Huihui and Sun Yanan, etc. In 2008 Beijing Olympics, the enrolled students cultivated by Wuhan Sports University won six gold medals, two silver medals and two bronze medals in all. In 2016 Rio Olympics, they obtained one silver medal, three bronze medals, one fifth place and two seventh places.

The University attaches importance to external exchanges and cooperation. It has established partnership with more than 60 education and sports organs from home and abroad and conducted seven joint education programs with other countries, thus gaining practical results. In 2012, Asian Gymnastics union authorized Wuhan Sports University to establish Asian Gymnastics Training Center. In 2014, International Federation of Gymnastics authorized the University to set up the International School of Gymnastics, the sole of its kind in the world. Wuhan Sports University is one of the few provincial universities that receive international students with scholarships granted by the government of China.

In the future, Wuhan Sports University, steered by the major sports strategy and major education decisions of China, will work hard to become a high-level  university featured by first-class sports disciplines, sports programs and sports events.
