The university originates from Shanghai College founded in 1906 and German Medical School founded in 1907. With a glorious history of over 100 years and an incessant tradition of outstanding education, USST had cultivated a great number of young patriots with high ideals, academic elites, engineering specialists and social tops, providing the country and society with more than 100,000 professionals. It has enjoyed the reputation of “Whampoa Military Academy in Manufacturing Industry”.

    University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (hereafter referred to as “USST”) locates in Shanghai, China. The university originated from University of Shanghai which was founded in 1906 and the campus is characterized by the western-style buildings. As a key university of Shanghai, the university specializes in the fields of engineering and science, economics, management and literature. There are 15 schools and colleges, 2 teaching administration departments, 30 research offices, 12 research centers and 3 research institutions in USST, with a faculty group of over 1200, in which about 500 are professors or associate professors and 6 members of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering (employed or co-employed), and 20 plus state-level experts and elite teachers. Currently there are about 22,000 students on campus, among them 4,800 are graduate students and 16,800 are undergraduate students.

    With key strength in Engineering, USST also extended to other disciplines such as Natural Science, Economics, Management and Literature, including 3post-doctoral research stations, 5 first-level and 35 second-level Doctoral Degree majors conferring disciplines, 22 first-level and 86 second-level Master’s Degree majors conferring disciplines, and 17 Master’s of Engineering and MBA /MPA/Engineering Management/International Commerce/Translation and Interpretation degree majors conferring disciplines. Over the 100 years, educational internationalization has been a continuing practice and especially in the last 20 years, the university has built cooperation relationship with over 60 universities in many countries, such as the United States, Germany, Canada, Japan, Australia, Ireland, etc., and has carried out student exchange programs with more than 20 universities in 7 countries. and in most recent years, more focus is put on degree programs, especially graduate degree programs. So far more than 3,000 international students have come to study from over 90 countries on the continents of Asia, Africa, European, North American, South America and Oceania. and as it has always been, we warmly welcome students from all over the world to join the university.
