INTRODUCTION

Tianjin University of Technology and Education (TUTE), founded in 1979， is one of the first normal universities focusing on cultivating teachers for vocational schools. Up to now, more than 50,000 graduates play an important role in vocational schools and enterprises and are popular with employers.

TUTE sticks to the educational philosophy of “Hand and Mind, All-round Development” with its mission of training highly qualified vocational teachers for the country. It has more than 18,000 full-time students, including undergraduate, graduate and PHD students. To meet the market demand, TUTE also focuses on cultivating applied technicians for the society. Since 1990s, the university initiates a new cultivation pattern of “Double-Certificate System” to cultivate talents. “Double-Certificate” refers to the degree certificate and the national technical qualification certificate, which the students get upon graduation. With this distinctive teaching model, the university has won twice the first Prize of National Teaching Achievements Award.

TUTE currently has 7 discipline categories including engineering, pedagogy, science, management, economics, literature and art, which are operated by 10 colleges. It has a postdoctoral workstation, 1 PHD program for national special needs, 7 Master programs, 44 bachelor’s programs and 5 innovation bases.

Tianjin is one of the four municipalities in China and also the largest coastal city in north of China. TUTE is located in Hexi District, south-east of Tianjin city, which owns convenient traffic environment, about half an hour to Tianjin train station and 20 minutes to Tianjin Binhai International Airport.

TUTE started to enroll international students since 1993. It has long been qualified to recruit students under various scholarship programs，including Chinese Government Scholarship，Confucius Institute Scholarship and Tianjin Government Scholarship. In 2008, the International College was established, in charge of the enrollment, cultivation, and management of international students.

TUTE offers a variety of scholarship to international students. The scale of international students has expanded continuously since 2003. TUTE enrolls nearly 1,000 international students from more than 70 countries for both short-term and long-term study yearly. Currently there are undergraduates and postgraduates from more than 20 countries, including Thailand, Vietnam, South Korea, Ethiopia, Zambia, Tanzania, Ukraine, Poland, and so on, are studying at TUTE.

As one of the first Educational Foreign-Aid Bases authorized by the Ministry of Education of China, the university has assigned over 200 teachers and experts to teach and cultivate in TVET institutes of Asia and Africa, from which more than 10,000 local teachers and students have been benefited. The university has undertaken the foreign-aid program of “Ethiopia-China Polytechnic College” sponsored by the Chinese government, which is included “China-Africa 20+20 Universities Cooperation Plan”. In December 2014, the university set up “ASEAN Educational Training Center”, authorized by the Ministry of Education of China and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China. The university has also set up 2 Confucius Institutes, 5 Confucius Classrooms and 3 Chinese Language Teaching Centers in Ethiopia and New Zealand. The university has developed international cooperation and exchanges with a number of universities in US., U.K., Germany, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Belgium, New Zealand, etc.
