Currently there are more than 1,680 full-time faculty members.In 2017, Professor XIA Changliang was elected as the academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. There are more than 28,000 full-time students, including about 24,000 undergraduates, nearly 3,000 graduate students, and more than 1,900 international students. TGU has undertaken more than 1000 projects at national and provincial levels, and obtained more than 1,000 patents. The faculties have won 13 National Science and Technology Awards up to now. Tiangong University, as a “Chinese Institution Admitting International Students Under Chinese Government Scholarship Programs”, has established long-term friendly cooperation and exchanges with more than 80 universities or institutions from 50 countries and regions including Tunisia, Mongolia, Pakistan, Germany, South Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Ethiopia, Egypt, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Indonesia as well as Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. We have also cooperated with foreign universities in various forms of student exchange programs such as joint training, short-term exchanges, and double degrees.

We also attach great importance to the localization of talent cultivation in the countries along the “Belt and Road”. The university co-builds the Punjab Tianjin Technical University with the Punjab Province of Pakistan and undertakes the “China-Pakistan Economic Corridor” talent construction project commissioned by the Education Department of the Kaipur Province of Pakistan. We also assist Mongolia National University of Education in applying for the majors of Textile Engineering. In 2016, the number of international students along the “Belt and Road” accounted for more than 80% of the total number of students at our university.

We utilize various resources, such as scientific research platforms, experimental practice teaching demonstration centers and school-enterprise practice bases, to support academic innovation and practice activities for international students, and attaches great importance to the branding and curriculum construction of English-speaking courses. We have established 8 full English courses for undergraduates,12 full English programs for postgraduates and 3 all-English courses of doctoral programs. So far, 16 courses have been approved as the brand courses for international students at provincial and ministerial levels.

Meanwhile, we attach great importance to strengthening the intercommunication and cultural understanding between Chinese students and international students. We have built the Chinese Traditional Cultural Communication Center and have held the International Cultural Festivals for four consecutive years. All of which have greatly enhanced the communication between Chinese and foreign students, and contributed to the promotion of foreign cooperation and exchange of Tianjin and even the whole country with the world.
