INTRODUCTION

Southwest University of Political Science and Law (Abbreviated as SWUPL) is located in Chongqing City—the upstream area of the Yangtze River. It is one of the first established higher political and legal institutions, one of the first batches of key universities since the reform and opening up of China, and one of the first sets of cultivation and education bases of outstanding legal talents. In addition, SWUPL is the key university that is co-administrated by the Ministry of Education and Chongqing Municipality.

Currently, SWUPL has three campuses covering a total area of more than 500 acres. The Yubei campus and the Baoshenghu campus are located in Yubei District, and the old campus of SWUPL is located in Shapingba District. The Yubei campus is the education center for undergraduates and postgraduates, while the Shapingba campus was founded for continuing education and cadre training. Over 23,000 students are enrolled at SWUPL with more than 2,300 staff and faculty members.

SWUPL has formed its multi-level talent training pattern, from undergraduate to graduate and doctoral education. Presently, the university has developed 25 undergraduate degree programs from law, philosophy, and literature, to economics, management, engineering, and much more. For postgraduates, SWUPL offers 8 authorized programs for first-level master degree, 38 programs for second-level master degree and 8 professional master degree programs. For doctors, SWUPL provides 1 authorized program for first-level doctor degree, 16 programs for second-level doctor degree, 1 center for post-doctoral studies and 3 programs in the professional group for the construction of Chongqing special subjects.

SWUPL has constantly promoted international communication and cooperation. Currently, SWUPL has established relationships with more than 90 universities from 16 countries and regions, and has promoted nearly 93 international exchange programs with international partner universities. In the northwestern United States, SWUPL established the first regional Confucius school, to upgrade foreign Chinese teaching and educational cooperation. SWUPL has established such institutions as Human Rights Research Institution and the Chinese Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Law Research Center and so on.
