Located in Shanghai, SUS is included the first batch of domestic colleges and universities building world-class disciplines under China’s “Double First-Class Construction Initiative”. SUS consists of eight schools, i.e., China Table Tennis College, School of Sports Education and Training, School of Chinese Wushu, School of Sports Science, School of Sports Journalism, Communication and Foreign Languages, School of Economic Management, School of Sports Leisure and Art, and School of International Education.
SUS rolls out seven doctoral programs, 12 master programs and 20 undergraduate programs. With 680 full-time teachers in service, SUS is home to 6,148 full-time students (including 1,169 doctoral students and master students).
SUS enjoys leading-edge advantages in sports education and training, sports health and rehabilitation, sports journalism and communications, sports industry economy, sports public administration and sports art, etc. Up to now, SUS successfully established six provincial and ministerial-level key laboratories (bases). Shanghai Laboratory of China’s National Anti-Doping Agency, which is mainly initiated and undertaken by SUS, is now under construction.
SUS takes pride in a group of famous scholars and famous coaches and referees, including the distinguished professors funded by Cheung Kong Scholars Program of Ministry of Education, distinguished professors as Oriental Scholars of Shanghai-based Universities, foreign academicians of All American Sports Academy, high-ranking officials of international sports organizations, senior coaches of national sports teams and senior lecturers for referee training in international sports organizations.
By admitting international students with Chinese government scholarships at all levels, SUS is home to more than 200 international students from nearly 40 countries, such as United States, France, Germany, Japan, South Korea and those countries along “The Belt and Road”. SUS establishes inter-university cooperation with more than 70 universities and institutions across 25 countries and regions, and vigorously advances its cooperation with international sports organizations. China Table Tennis College has been named as the highest college-level affiliated training base of International Table Tennis Federation. SUS jointly establishes International Handball College and IAAF Special Training and Certification Center in conjunction with International Handball Federation and International Association of Athletics Federations, respectively.
Up to now, SUS students have won five Olympic gold medals, an Olympic silver medal, five Olympic bronze medals, 28 gold medals of world championships, 39 gold medals of the Asian Games and Asian championships. Three students break the world records three times, while two students break the Asian records 12 times. SUS passes the field assessment for “National High-level Sports Reserve Talent Base”. National Juvenile Team of Middle and Long-Distance Race has settled down in SUS. Marathon College of Chinese Athletics Association and Basketball College of China Basketball Association spring up in SUS.
SUS takes the lead in building the world's one and only higher education institution specialized in table tennis—China Table Tennis College; the one and only national sports science and technology demonstration park designated by General Administration of Sport of China; the one and only national-class university science and technology park approved by Ministry of Science and Technology and Ministry of Education; the first museum with panoramic display for martial arts history and culture in the world—Chinese Wushu Museum; the one and only English sports academic journal simultaneously included by the authoritative SCI and SSCI inthe Chinese Mainland and one of “Top 100 Chinese Journals”—Journal of Sport and Health Science (English Edition). Moreover, SUS is the first to introduce projects of ITTF Museum and Chinese Table Tennis Museum initiated and constructed by the relevant international sports organizations.
