The number of its full-time undergraduate students amounts to 25,668 with 6719 in-residency postgraduates, 2651 international students(1668 degree students) and 15476 part-time students. The number of teaching and administrative staff reaches 2720 of which more than 1750 are teachers, with 390 full time professors and 790 associate professors, a doctorate staff of 1030,1 academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, 1 academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, 1 academician of Canada Academy of Science and Canada Academy of Engineering, 1 academician of the 3 rd World Academy of Sciences, 2 members of the Academic Degrees Review Committee of the State Council, and 5 experts of the State Thousand Talents Program.

    Research and Development

    The school attaches great importance to scientific research, initiative to meet the national and regional strategic needs and highlights academic and technological innovation. The university has such numerous laboratories, bases and research centers as one national key laboratory cultivation base, one state &local joint engineering laboratory, one national university science park, A science and technology cooperation base of the Ministry of Science and Technology, one national level institution of achievement promotion, two key laboratories of the Ministry of Education (MOE), one International Cooperation Joint Laboratory of MOE, one Engineering Center of MOE, two collaborative innovation and intelligence base of 111 Plan and many other key institutions, research centers and bases.

    In recent years, Ningbo university presided over the completion of the second prize of National Natural Science Award (one) , the second prize of National Technology Invention Award (one) , the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award (two), achieved breakthroughs of three major National Science and Technology Awards.

    At the same time, the social science research level of Ningbo University rank top 10% of all colleges and universities in China; Ningbo university also won the year 2017 highest honor for the combination of government, academia and industry research--China Industry-University-Institute Cooperation Innovation Award and listed in the top 50 colleges and universities for effective invention patents nationwide.

     Teaching & Programs

    Ningbo University currently has 21 colleges and faculties, with seven provincial first-class A disciplines, six provincial first-class B disciplines. According to the ESI data, engineering, clinical medicine, chemistry, materials science of Ningbo university rank top 1% of the world academic institutions. There are 2 first-level doctoral disciplines, 14 second-level doctoral disciplines, 3 post-doctoral research centers, 19 first-level postgraduate disciplines, 17 specialized master's degree disciplines (including engineering master's degree) and 75 undergraduate programs.The university has been devoting to cultivate talented students and education innovation. Ningbo University has won the first state-level prize of teaching once and three second prizes, six national specialty majors, three national comprehensive reform projects, two national talent training programs, one national level teaching team, three state-level experimental teaching demonstration centers, one state-level virtual simulation experiment center, one national level college students A practice base, one Personnel Training Mode Reform Experimental Zone of MOE, one national university student cultural quality education base.

 

    International Exchange

    Ningbo University has been attaching great attention to the development of international cooperation and exchanges. Up to now, the university has maintained close links and intercollegiate cooperation with almost 170 well-known institutions of higher education in more than 70 countries such as Purdue University (USA), Canberra University, Wollongong University (Australia), University of Montreal (Canada). Ningbo University collaborated with University of Angers to build a joint institute in 2017. Ningbo University also offers such English taught programs as Sino-Australia MBA, Bachelor of China& USA mathematics and applied mathematics, China-Canada Humber program, ACCA/CPA, double bachelor’s degree of Indonesia 2+2 and other programs. Besides, Ningbo University also built many international programs such as 16 undergraduate programs, 14 post graduate programs and 2 PH.D programs and co-established Confucius Institute with university of Iceland and University of Tamatave, Madagascar.    

    Ningbo university also has frequent exchanges with Hong Kong, Maucao and Taiwan. Interscholastic academic and student exchanges and cooperation programs are conducted with the University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and so on; Interscholastic academic exchange and cooperation agreement are signed with Fu Jen Catholic University of Taiwan, Taiwan Ocean University, Yunlin University of Science and Technology, Soochow University of Taiwan and other 21 Taiwan universities. The first cross-strait exchange program of Hongkong and Ningbo was launched in 1993 and since then 23 exchange visits are conducted. The exchange visits and training program for Ningbo-Hong Kong university students with Chinese University of Hong Kong are listed as Million Plan projects under the Ministry of Education.
