NJUCM is one of the World Health Organization(WHO) Collaborating Centers for Traditional Medicine; the university is authorized by the Chinese Ministry of Public Health to be an International Acupuncture Training Center. It is also a training base for TCM teachers, a center for clinical pharmacology, a training base for overseas education approved by the State Administration of TCM and one of the first authorized TCM universities to enroll and train overseas students. At present , there are about 20,000 students studying on campus, including over 2,000 Master and Doctoral students and over 1,000 overseas students.
The university offers doctoral, master and bachelor programs. Specialties of bachelor’s program cover the field of medicine, management, science, engineering, economics and arts. TCM specialties are the principal part, while other non-TCM specialties play a supporting role.
In addition, the university has 3 post-doctorate research stations, 25 programs authorized to grant Doctoral degrees and 38 to grant Master’s degrees. International Education College (HK, Macao and Taiwan Education Center) of NJUCM is responsible for enrollment and administration of overseas students. This college is a teaching unit within NJUCM and comprises of various general and individual services. All the teachers are well versed in the history and development of TCM, and understand international students’ individualities and specific requirements.
The Center for Chinese Language, the language training branch of NJUCM, assists foreign students in the mastery of the Chinese Language. It accepts both international students supported by government scholarships as well as self-supporting students. Besides, the center also provides Chinese Language courses of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ancient Chinese. With training received in these two areas, new students to TCM will possess a strong foundation for professional development in TCM.
NJUCM values international cooperation and academic exchange. In 1994, the university initiated a joint Bachelor’s program with Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology(RMIT University), Australia, becoming the first University of TCM in China to cooperate with a nationally accredited university in the West. Up till now, more than 8000 TCM professionals from over 90 countries and regions have been trained with the International Education College.
