The university is selected into the National College Students' Innovation Training Project and is ranked as the first batch of pilot universities of Outstanding Engineer Training Program of Education of Ministry, the first batch of College Students' network culture studio of Ministry of Education, the first batch of the Demonstration of Colleges and Universities of Deepening the Innovation and Entrepreneurship. The school has four national experimental teaching demonstration centers, one national virtual simulation experimental teaching center, and three national engineering practice education centers.

HFUT has three national key subjects, one national key (foster) subject, 12 first level of disciplines of authorized doctoral degrees, one secondary discipline of authorized doctor's degree, 33 first-level discipline of authorized master's degree, 11 kinds of degree-granting qualifications.

The school has 3,783 staff and 2,266 full-time teachers, including 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, seven staff who selected by The National Thousand Talents Program, 12 professors honored as Yangtze River Scholars of the Ministry of Education, 7 winners of the National Outstanding Youth Science Foundation, one famous teacher of the Central Organization Department of the 10,000 Talents Programme, 2 national famous teachers; 2 young Yangtze River scholars, 10 winners of the National Excellent Youth Science Fund, and one was selected as the 10,000 Talents Program of Youth Top Talent Project; 10 staff as National Million Talents Project, 27 staff as New Century Talent Supportive Program Ministry of Education.

Currently HFUT enrolls 32,000 full-time undergraduates, more than 13,000 postgraduate students. The students’ employment rate keeps above 96%, and among them, 65% of graduate students work in Fortune Global 500 companies and famous enterprises in China. HFUT has two national college student Science and Technology Innovation Teams, and the teams has won lots of important awards at home and abroad, including the gold medals of Challenge Cup and Youth Creation national college students' innovative undertaking competition. School bridge team participated in international competitions and achieved excellent results many times on behalf of the Chinese youth team; the College Student Art Troupe has often participated in the Flowers of May of National College students' Literature and Art Show.

At present, the university has established four Overseas Expertise Introduction Projects for Discipline Innovation, and successively established friendly and cooperative relations with more than 50 of the world's best-known universities such as the Ohio State University, Clark university, University of Waterloo and the University of Nottingham. HFUT holds the Chinese-foreign cooperation in running schools and exchange learning programs with many countries at home and abroad. Now more than two hundred international students from over fifty countries are studying at HFUT, while the university sends the excellent students to study overseas each semester.
