Located in the paradise city Hangzhou, a world-famous tourist resort with rich cultural heritage and the capital city of Zhejiang Province, the University currently consists of 4 campuses, namely Cangqian, Gudangwan, Yuhangshan and Xiasha, are located near the Xixi Wetland National Park, the beautiful West Lake, and the Qiantang River respectively. The University is made up of 18 schools, 2 basic teaching department, 1 affiliated hospital—Hangzhou No.2 People’s Hospital and 1 independent college—Qianjiang College.
HNU currently offers about 69 undergraduate programs and over 160 graduate programs conducted in its 2 faculties and 18 schools. Its has over 22,200 full-time students, including over 20,000 full-time undergraduate students, over 2,200 graduate students and over 1500 overseas students. The University attaches great importance to the development of students’ innovation and entrepreneurship, and has cultivated a batch of outstanding personnel represented by Jack Ma, the Board Chairman of Alibaba Group.
HNU was first authorized to enroll overseas students in 1993 and is one of the first batch of pilot universities for Overseas Students Quality Assessment in China. HNU is entitled to confer Chinese Government Scholarship, Confucius Institute Scholarship, Zhejiang Provincial Government Scholarship and Hangzhou Municipal Government Scholarship.
HNU has been establishing and developing exchanges and cooperations with over 70 universities from the United States, United Kingdom, Korea, Japan, Australia and regions of Hong Kong and Taiwan etc.. The University jointly established a Confucius Institute with the Middle Tennessee State University of USA, and has been running a good number of Chinese language teaching and culture promotion programs there in the region.
HNU attaches great importance to its internationalization. Overseas students are enrolled from different parts of the world for degree-seeking studies or non-degree training in its various programs, with the total number of 3000 students from over 50 countries in the past 3 years. Currently, the University offers all English teaching graduate and undergraduate programs for students from the United States, Bangladeshi, Zambia, Ukraine, Thailand, etc..
