INTRODUCTION

Guizhou Normal University(GZNU), which was founded in 1941, was originally named National Guiyang Teachers' College. In 1985, it was formally entitled Guizhou Normal University. It was honored as one of the key universities in Guizhou Provincein 1996. In July 2013, GZNU was approved to grant Ph.D. by the State Council Academic Degrees Committee. In 2015, she was honored as a university co-constructed by the Ministry of Education of P.R.China and Guizhou Province. In 2017, she became the only one university in the province which enters the “111 plan” set by the Ministry of Education and Bureau of Foreign Experts Affairs of P.R.China.

The university is situated in Guiyang, the City of Forests or as many people have called it “an ideal place for summer”. At present, it has three campuses, Baoshan, Baiyun(Qiushi School) and Huaxi, with a total land area of 187 hectares. It comprises 24 Schools, one independent college, and one School of Further Education.

The comprehensive strength of the school discipline ranks high among the universities in Guizhou province. Currently, students are pursuing Bachelor, Master or Doctor Degrees in a variety of majors, 76 of which are undergraduates including 19 provincial-level distinctive disciplines. And now GZNU has the privilege to recommend Bachelor students for admission to their Master Degrees without examinations.

GZNU now has 1,826 full time teachers, including 302 professors, 634 associate professors, with 996 holding MA degrees and 519 holding PhDs. In the past five years, the university has undertaken 334 national research projects and 922 provincial and ministerial research projects. Currently, GZNU has an enrollment of over 33,000 full time students. As the university focuses much more attention on the quality education, its graduates are widely accepted.

Libraries of the three campuses are abundant in stock, with over 2,530,000 printed books, 1,550,000 kinds of e-books in Chinese and foreign languages, over 2,300 kinds of domestic and foreign newspapers, 72 databases, and up to 72 TB of digital resources.

GZNU attaches great importance to intercommunication, and so far, established long-term links and cooperation with universities, colleges, and research institutions including countries like America, Britain, Russia, Australia, Japan and Korea, and Taiwan area. Exchange programs in training students and teachers have already been carried out. We are also one of the universities which undertakes the responsibility of training international students receiving the Governmental Scholarship and there is one testing centre for HSK(Chinese Language Proficiency Test) in the university.
