ECUPL has more than 18,000 students and over 1,200 faculty and staff members. It comprises 21 faculties (departments) and over 160 research institutions. Among its over 1,000 full-time teaching faculty members, nearly 400 hold professorship. ECPUL scored “Excellent” in the two evaluations of undergraduate teaching conducted by the Ministry of Education. As one of the first pilot programs of its kind in China, ECUPL started its graduate education in 1981 and was allowed to enroll students for its LLM professional degree programs in 1995. Until now, the graduate education of ECUPL has developed into the pattern of “one body, two wings” with the focus on law, while driving the development of both the discipline of economics and that of management, and the coordinated progress of the academic degree programs and professional degree programs.

Actively promoting international cooperation, ECUPL has entered into cooperation with about 150 universities and academic institutions overseas, and has been working with partner universities to offer three joint programs approved by the Ministry of Education. In 2012, ECUPL became eligible to receive international students sponsored by the Chinese Government Scholarship, and in 2014, it became one of only six Chinese universities approved by the Ministry of Education to offer the one-year English-taught Master’s program funded by the Scholarship for Youth of Excellence Scheme of China. At present, ECUPL has in its undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, professional non-degree, and Chinese language programs over 800 international students who come from more than 50 countries, including Republic of Korea, the United States, Russia, Germany, Spain, France, Ireland, Britain, Canada, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Mongolia, Turkey, Garner, Cape Verde, and Ivory Coast. On both of its campuses, ECUPL has dormitory buildings for international students. The Changning Campus of ECUPL is situated in the city center of Shanghai, adjacent to Zhongshan Park and Jing’an business center, and close to the metro line 2, 3, 4, and 11.

     ECUPL has core journals in law such as Legal Science and The Journal of East China University of Political Science and Law. The library of the university has a collection of nearly 2.4 million books, over 1,500 Chinese and foreign newspapers and journals, 92 databases, and about 1.3 million e-books, making it the largest center of legal documents in east China and the No. 1 in terms of the number of legal databases in Chinese and foreign languages among all law schools in China.

Standing at a new starting point, ECUPL will seize the strategic opportunities created by the national comprehensive reform in education so as to establish overall framework for its development, adhere to its developmental concept of “Open Education, Liberal Education, and Innovative Education,” and deepen its developmental mode regarding “teaching as the foundation, academic research as the vigor, and talents as the strength,” construct the developmental structure of “excellence in law and integration of disciplines,” and implement the developmental course of “two bases (the training base for top talents in law and relevant disciplines and the research base for law and relevant disciplines), two centers (Center for Legal Information and Center for Rule of Law Strategy Studies), and one platform (Internet plus Legal Big Data Platform). ECUPL is determined to deepen its reform, promote collaborative innovation, stick to the rule of law, and enhance its internal development, so as to gradually develop itself into a high-level application and research university and an elegant institution which is both renowned internationally and enjoys a leading position domestically, which boasts its excellence in law and integration of disciplines, distinctive features, and innovative development, and which promotes the progress of the rule of law civilization.
