International Cooperation
CQMU attaches great importance to the exchanges and cooperation at home and abroad. It is one of Pilot Universities of International Cooperation in Chongqing. In recent years, the university has set up collaborative relationships with around 40 reputable universities and institutes in countries like the United Kingdom, the United States, France, Canada, Australia, Belgium, New Zealand and South Africa etc. Joint academic and exchange programs at all student levels as well as joint scientific research programs have been carried out. There are some of CQMU’s partnerships as follows.
Together with University of Alberta and University of Auckland, CQMU has established International Pregnancy Research Alliance (IPRA) and a joint lab for Maternal and Fetal Medicine. Also set up were the Metabonomics Centre and a world-class bio-bank.
In 2016, the university was approved to build “National Base for Innovation and Talent Introduction in Maternal-Fetal Medicine” known as “111 Project” by the Ministry of Education and State Administration of Foreign Expert Affairs of China. CQMU is one of the first local universities and the only one in southwestern China that have ever been admitted into this Project.
Partnering with the University of British Columbia, CQMU has set up “Canada-China Joint Center for Translational Medical Research in Child Development and Alzheimer's Disease” and “Key Laboratory of Child Development Diseases of Ministry of Education of China”, targeting breakthroughs in cognitive development, learning and memory disorder, as well as other related diseases.
Based on aforementioned platforms, CQMU is now building an “International Joint Research Lab of Reproduction and Development”.
Besides, together with University College of London, CQMU has established a Joint Center for Lipid Research which has reached the top level in China.
The university also carries out student and faculty exchange programs with universities in Asia, Europe, North America and Oceania. Students and faculty members can attend these institutions for classes, clinical rotations and joint scientific research. CQMU also runs a Study and Culture Tour every year.
Facts about CQMU
CQMU has great potential in furthering international medical research, thanks to its access to extensive research staff, diverse system of facilities and sheer volume of patients.
CQMU has 19 colleges and departments, a graduate school and a life sciences institute. It has a strong faculty team of over 2100 members, including 1,600 professors and associate professors and over 200 PHD/MD supervisors.
Currently, CQMU has nearly 26,000 students including 20,000 undergraduates, 5,000 postgraduates and over 800 international students from more than 50 countries. China Government Scholarship, Chongqing Municipal Government Mayor Scholarship and CQMU President Scholarship are available for international students.
CQMU offers 33 bachelor specialties in medicine and other medicine-related areas. There are four national key disciplines at CQMU: infectious diseases, pediatrics, clinical laboratory diagnostics and neurology, all of which are amongst the best programs offered in China. Undergraduate programs, like clinical medicine, nursing and stomatology, have been accredited by the international community and Ministry of Education of China.
CQMU runs a number of advanced research platforms and has a strong team of researchers and scientists. In the past 10 years, many faculty members have been working as leading scientists in over 650 different projects, winning over 110 awards in science and technology.
CQMU also operates 28 national and provincial research institutes, including a National Engineering Research Center, a National Bio-Industry Base Experimental Animal Centre, 3 key labs of Ministry of Education, 1 incubator base of national key lab, “Innovative and Entrepreneurial Base of Overseas Professionals” and an “Academician and Expert Workstation”.
CQMU has a leading platform for HIFU technology or High Intensity Focused Ultrasound. Developed by CQMU, it is the first large advanced medical equipment natively developed and produced in China, which has completely independent intellectual property. It has been exported to more than 20 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America, etc.
CQMU has 8 well-facilitated affiliated hospitals with over 10,000 beds and over 8 million outpatients each year. The sheer volume in the numbers of patients provides researchers from overseas to access a wide variety of medical cases for scientific research. There are 28 clinical specialties of national importance, among which are cardiovascular medicine, obstetrics, neonatology and children respiratory medicine, representing the most advanced level of China in medical treatment, teaching and scientific research.
Chongqing Medical University has two campuses. The downtown campus is centrally located in Chongqing’s Yuzhong District. From there, one can easily access all four of Chongqing’s central business districts using nearby major infrastructure links. The newer campus, located in University Town, is an ideal location for study and research. The natural scenery and university master plan affords students with opportunities to partake in extracurricular activities as well as research and study.
