INTRODUCTION

Located in Changchun City, Jilin Province, Changchun University is a provincial full-time comprehensive university. At present, this university has three campuses totally covering an area of 1020000 square meters. This university grew out of the former Changchun Industrial Accounting and Statistics Special School established in 1949 by the former Department of Industry of Northeast People’s Government. After that, the name of this school changed many times. In 1983, this school’s name was changed into Jilin Mechanical and Electrical Specialized School. In 1987, approved by the former State Education Commission, Changchun University was established by the merger of 4 schools which are the former Jilin University of Science and Technology, Jilin Mechanical and Electrical Specialized School, Changchun Foreign Language Specialized School and the Changchun Vocational University respectively. In August 2000, Changchun University incorporated the former Jilin Province Forestry School.

Over the years, Changchun University has been following the “Learning Oriented and Application Emphasized” philosophy of school running, actively promoting the school spirit whose core is “To be virtuous and kind-hearted, constantly strive to become stronger, and to pursue realism and advocate practice” and keep practicing the school motto “To integrate knowledge and behaviors, to be honest and kind” and is committed to construct a distinctive high-level regional key applied university, putting forth effort to provide talent and technology support for the state and regional economic construction and social development.

Adhering to open and internationalized school running, Changchun University actively carries out international cooperation and exchanges and devotes major effort to develop education of overseas students coming to China. This university has successively established friendly cooperation relations with 112 colleges and universities and educational institutions in 21 countries and regions such as Russia, Korea, America, France, Australia, Japan, Taiwan, etc. At present, Changchun University has the qualification to accept overseas students coming to China through programs of Chinese Government Scholarships, Confucius Institute Scholarships, Jilin Provincial Government Scholarships and the “Silk Road” Chinese Government Scholarships. It has successively admitted more than 2100 overseas students from 22 countries such as Russia, Korea and Italy to study here. Through carrying out extensive international exchanges and all kinds of international education program cooperation, we have improved our internationalized school running level and expanded our social influences and our reputation in the world. In 2014, the Confucius Institute established by this university cooperatively with the Ryazan State University in Russia was awarded the honorary title of global “Advanced Confucius Institute”. In 2017, Changchun University became one of the Chinese universities which cooperate with the Confucius Institute at St. Cloud State University in the U.S.A. Authorized by the “Russian World” Foundation, Changchun University has established a Russian Center cooperatively with the Blagoveschensk State Pedagogical University in Russia. This university has been rated as an advanced unit in international cultural exchanges by the Government of Jilin Province for 11 successive years and in 2014 it was awarded the honorary title of “Advanced Collective for the Management of Overseas Student Education in China”.
