Changchun University of Science and Technology (the original name is Changchun Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics) was founded in 1958 by the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Wang Daheng, a famous scientist, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a Chinese Academy of Engineering, is the founder and the first President of CUST. CUST was renamed as Changchun University of Science and Technology in 2002. In September 2017, there were 15,933 undergraduates, 4,356 postgraduates and 443 doctoral candidates. Now there are more than 300 foreign students from about 50 countries studying in CUST every year, Among them, there were 200 Degree-Seeking students.
The university always aims to cultivate talents with application and innovation ability, and actively explores the training mode of personal development. Now the university has 1191 full-time teachers, 198 doctoral supervisors, 218 professors and 461 associate professors. The university had built two national experimental zones for personnel training model innovation, 2 virtual simulation experiment teaching center at the national level, four national experimental teaching demonstration centers, four national engineering practice education centers, etc. The quality of the graduates in CUST always gain well-reputed for employers, recently our first employment rate of graduates and the quality of employment ranks at the top among Jilin provincial colleges and universities, in two years, the number of graduates flooding into the world and domestic top 500 enterprises is 19 percent. Our university is rated advanced unit graduates by Ministry of Education of China year after year.
