Beijing Sport University

INTRODUCTION

Beijing Sport University is one of the first universities awarded by the State Council as a key university, enjoying reputation at home and abroad. Beijing Sport University is affiliated with the State General Administration of Sport.

Beijing Sport University was founded in 1953. BSU has over 1,000 faculty members, there are nearly 15,000 students on campus.

Beijing Sport University has 7 colleges: graduate school, physical education college, sports coaching college, wushu college, management college, sport science college and continuing education college; 4 departments: sport journalism & communication department, foreign languages department, sport performance department and sport rehabilitation department; 2 affiliated sport schools: elite sport school and secondary sport school. Besides, the cadre-training centre of the State General administration of Sport is set up in BSU.

Currently, Beijing Sport University has 4 national key disciplines, 1 national demonstration center of teaching experiment.BSU has established the post-doctoral station of sport science, and is an authorized university to grant doctoral and master’s degrees in the national first-class discipline of sport science. BSU has 12 undergraduate programs: physical education, sports coaching, mass sports, sport medicine, traditional Chinese sports, public utilities management, sports industry management, journalism, applied psychology, English, performance and sport rehabilitation & health, including 3 national featured programs. Beijing Sport University has set up all together 36 continuing education teaching stations in 19 provinces and cities, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Korea.

BSU enjoys modern teaching facilities, with 25 indoor training gyms including the national team training complex and the tennis complex, and 59 outdoor fields.

BSU has cooperated with 49 universities or institutions of higher education from 25 countries and regions, and granted honorary doctor’s degree to 7 famous experts and leaders from international sport organizations, including Mr. Jacques Rogge, the President of IOC. The International Olympic committee (IOC) has conferred 3 Presidents of BSU the “Olympic Silver Order”, “Sport Research Award” and “Sport Education Award”. BSU has trained more than13,000 international students from 103 countries since it first enrolled foreign students in 1958.

Beijing Sport University has achieved a great success in 2008 Beijing Olympics preparations. Athletes from BSU gained excellent achievements in 2008 Olympics, with 14 golden medals, 6 silvers and 2 bronzes. Beijing Sport University was awarded the “Beijing Olympics & Paralympics Advanced Collectives” by the State Council.
