Where are we?
Beijing Foreign Studies University, or BFSU, located in the Haidian District of Beijing, where the key institutions of higher education and high-tech industries are concentrated, is divided into two campuses – the West Campus and the East Campus. BFSU covers a total area of 492,000 square meters and enjoys access to convenient transportation, with the Third Ring Road running through the two campuses.
What are our key strengths and advantages?
Today, BFSU teaches 84 foreign languages and 97 bachelor degree programs. Excellence in the teaching and research of foreign language and literature has allowed BFSU to enjoy a good reputation for its quality programs, both at home and internationally. In the past 77 years, over 90,000 people have graduated from BFSU. BFSU now serves as an important education base for qualified professionals with language competence, who, after graduation, work as diplomats, translators/interpreters, businessmen, journalists, lawyers, bankers, etc. For example, among BFSU alumni who work or have worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we have over 400 ambassadors and over 1000 counselors. BFSU is thus known as the “Cradle of Diplomats”.
Who teach here?
BFSU is superbly staffed with a highly-qualified, experienced and conscientious faculty of 713 members. Among them, 141 are professors, 239 are associate professors, 286 are lecturers, 80 is Ph. D supervisors and 240 is master supervisors. 92% of the faculty have overseas study or work experience. Each year approximately 200 teachers and experts are invited from more than 40 countries to teach at BFSU.
Our Internationalization
BFSU has been actively engaged in comprehensive and in-depth international exchange and cooperation. For the present, BFSU has become the most important window for Chinese education opening up to the world. To date, China has established extensive academic links with 441 partner universities and educational institutions in 87 countries and regions and has established 22 Confucius Institutes in collaboration with universities, colleges and institutions from 17 countries in Asia, Europe and America, ranking the first among Chinese universities. Each year, more than 4000 international students from more than 100 countries are coming to visit or study in BFSU. So far, more than 1000 international students enrolled in formal programs have been studying on campus.

BFSU consists of 17 schools, colleges and institute, 6 academic departments, and 8 research centers. Among them, schools, colleges and institutes recruiting international students include School of Chinese Language and Literature, School of English and International Studies, School of International Business, School of International Relations and Diplomacy, Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation, School of Law, School of International Journalism and Communication, School of Asian and African Language, School of European Languages and Cultures, School of Russian language, of Arabic Studies, National Research Center for Foreign Language Education, Department of Japanese, International Institute of Chinese Studies, and Institute for Global History of BFSU, etc.
To Book-lovers:
Beijing Foreign Studies University Library is an Academic library. The collection of the library contains 1,369,832 print volumes, 1,264,530 e-books, 1,142 periodicals and 78 corpora in Chinese and foreign languages. The library features information mainly related to languages, literature and culture, yet during recent years, more and more books on law, diplomacy, economy, news and communication, and management have been introduced.
How is graduates’ employment rate?
By October 31, 2017, the employment rate for graduates with a bachelor’s degree have been 94.71%, the employment rate for graduates with a master’s degree have been 95.04%, and the employment rate for graduates with a doctor’s degree have been 96.11%.
